Whatcha' Doing?
What's on your writing To Do list? Do you even have a To Do list?
I just attended a CLASSeminar. CLASS stands for Christian Leaders, Authors, and Speakers Services--hosted by author and speaker Florence Littauer and her daughters, Marita and Lauren. The seminar involved three days of workshops and small group sessions on developing professional speaking skills. Attendees were instructed to write down things we needed to do once we finished the seminar. My page is scrawled with different colored pens:
- Read Your Personality Tree by Florence Littauer
- Re-do my business cards
- Create a color-coded filing system for my non-fiction book proposal
You get the idea.
What about you? What do you need to do this year to move farther along the writing road? Let me make a few suggestions:
- Start a file of your article ideas
- Check out some library books on writing
- Research websites like www.writersdigest.com or www.americanchristianfictionwriters.com
- Read On Writing Well by William Zinsser
Take a few minutes after you read this article and write out your To Do list. Or, if you wrote one up in January and misplaced it, go find it! Then post your list beside your computer so it stares you in the face every day. Better yet, tape additional copies on your bathroom mirror and refrigerator door where you'll see it every time you brush your teeth or go looking for a snack. My CLASSeminar small group--an electic mix of talented people--is taking it one step further and sharing our lists with each other. We're creating some online accountability. I'm also blessed to belong to Inkspired, my writers group, because we help each other accomplish our writing goals. Who can encourage you to cross things off your To Do list? Who can you encourage?
What are you waiting for? Get going on your To Do list.
